The model and package
The GLM165-22 has a colour display, up to 165-foot range, area and volume functions, and two AA batteries. Bosch identifies it as non-connected and IP65 rated. Its published accuracy notes distinguish ordinary measuring from stakeout behaviour for affected date codes.
Picture the job
For an initial decorating estimate, on-device calculations can reduce repeated arithmetic. They do not know which walls are excluded, how many coats are planned or whether an alcove has already been counted. Keep the original lengths and your deductions in the room record. That makes the estimate reviewable when a supplier or installer asks where the area came from.
The ownership decision
The extra functions are worthwhile only if you will use them consistently. Practise identifying the measurement mode before collecting a whole-house record. A smaller basic model may be enough for occasional direct distances; a connected model addresses a different problem, namely moving readings into a compatible phone workflow. Keep those decisions separate from the enclosure rating.
