BLACK+DECKER Workmate WM425-A review: working space, clamping and storage

The short version

Where this tool fits

A folding vise-style workbench for readers whose projects benefit from adjustable jaws rather than a plain table. This review deliberately does not recommend a maximum load from the inconsistent product-page copy.

A good fit if…

Consider it when holding smaller or irregular pieces is central to the task, within the documented arrangements.

Look elsewhere if…

Capacity needs manual confirmation

The model and package

The WM425-A combines a steel frame, laminated bamboo worktop, adjustable jaws and dual-height legs. Four swivel pegs are listed in the package. The official page contains inconsistent load figures, so confirm the applicable limit in the current manual before relying on it.

Picture the job

A vise-style bench can make sense when the holding arrangement is the reason you need a bench. Start with representative parts and check the permitted jaw and peg configurations. An irregular object may need a different support method from a rectangular board. The presence of a vise does not mean every shape can be held securely in every orientation.

The ownership decision

Compare adjustment access, folded storage and the route you will carry it through. If you mainly need a flat assembly surface, a table-style option may be simpler for the work. If you need the jaws, inspect how the controls operate and what accessories are included. Keep the exact WM425-A designation so an older or differently packaged Workmate does not enter the comparison unnoticed.

Before ordering

Read the exact model manual for assembly, permitted clamping arrangements and load limits; resolve the conflicting web-page figures.
