4 compact drill kits compared: batteries, chuck size and the jobs you plan

4 OPTIONS · COMPARE THE DETAILS

A quick look before you choose

Check existing battery compatibility first. Then compare the complete kit, accessory shank sizes and handling with a battery attached. Bosch’s three-eighth-inch chuck and the half-inch alternatives are a meaningful difference to verify against your tools.

The short version

Match the tool to your project

Check existing battery compatibility first. Then compare the complete kit, accessory shank sizes and handling with a battery attached. Bosch’s three-eighth-inch chuck and the half-inch alternatives are a meaningful difference to verify against your tools.

A good fit if…

You have identified drilling or fastening tasks and need to choose a complete drill-driver kit around your accessories and battery system.

Look elsewhere if…

The planned work specifically requires a hammer drill or an impact driver. These drill-driver kits are not interchangeable with those tools.

Compare the details side by side ↓

Compare DEWALT DCD794D1, Bosch PS31-2A, Makita XFD131 and Milwaukee 3403-22 as complete kits. The useful starting point is your task list and battery ownership, not a voltage contest.

Describe the work before the kit

List the materials, fasteners and access constraints from the project instructions. Furniture assembly and drilling suitable loose material are not the same as working on an unknown wall. A drill comparison cannot establish what is behind a surface or choose a safe installation method. Resolve that assessment separately before shopping for the tool.

A bare body is not a working package

Each shortlisted kit has its own battery and charger contents. Compare the cost of the setup you can actually use, including compatible bits and storage. Two batteries may suit a rotate-and-charge routine, but capacity alone does not establish runtime. If you already own a compatible system, that can be a stronger reason to choose than adding another brand because of a small body-price difference.

Avoid mismatched performance rankings

A voltage label, torque figure and unit-watts-out claim are not interchangeable measurements. Do not combine them into a numerical winner. Instead, inspect the available modes, chuck and controls against the task. Check that required accessory shanks fit. A short body also needs enough space for the bit, the fastener and the way the work is supported.

Handle the complete configuration

A tool may balance differently with another battery fitted. Where possible, inspect the actual kit and control positions rather than relying on a bare-tool photograph. Weight figures on product pages can describe different configurations or conflict across sections; ask the manufacturer or seller if that detail is decisive. We have not measured handling, drilling speed or runtime for these kits.

Keep the model suffix on the order

Kit suffixes can change batteries, chargers and cases. Confirm the exact package before payment and keep the model with its manual and receipt. These four are drill-driver kits; do not assume a similarly named hammer-drill or impact-driver package has the same role. Choose the one whose complete setup matches the work you have actually planned.

The trade-offOne included battery means charging arrangements deserve attention during a longer session. The three-eighth-inch chuck limits the compatible shank size; this is not a hammer-drill package.Do not compare the inconsistent published weight entries as if they were a verified handling result.A compact 12V kit is not automatically interchangeable with other brands or Milwaukee’s M18 batteries.
