DEWALT DWE6423 review: the workpiece and sanding setup

A corded five-inch random-orbit sander to compare around the grip, speed control and dust connection you need.

Consider it for a known finishing task where a mains-powered setup and compatible dust arrangements are available.

The model and package

DEWALT lists a three-amp motor, variable speed from 8,000 to 12,000 orbits per minute, a hook-and-loop pad and an included dust bag. The dust port fits specified DEWALT collectors directly; other hose arrangements can require an adapter. DWE6423 and case-containing kit listings should not be assumed identical.

Picture the job

Imagine preparing new, identified timber for a specified finish. The sander is one part of a setup that also includes suitable abrasives, work support, dust control and the precautions in the relevant instructions. A low-profile body may be worth handling, but it does not establish comfort for you or guarantee a particular surface result.

The ownership decision

Compare the cost and availability of compatible abrasives and the exact dust adapter with the body price. If your hose connection is unresolved, record it as a purchase question rather than planning to improvise after delivery. A corded choice also needs a suitable working location and a cable route that does not interfere with the task. We have not measured vibration or dust capture performance.

An included dust bag does not make unknown old coatings safe to sand or guarantee a dust-free room.
