The “tree equity” provision would dedicate $3 billion to increasing our shade tree canopy, but Republicans don’t like the “equity” framing. I don’t really understand why the concept is triggering, but we shouldn’t get hung up on arguments we can’t win at the expense of good policy. The fact is that we need trees, and if we have to forego emphasizing equity to pass the bill, then it’s worth it.
