This is what a typical arterial road in my city of Irvine, CA looks like. I was looking to propose better designs to the city’s Public Works as well as City Council. However, while I think this redesign is the easiest one to realize, I wonder if that is actually comfortable enough to entice people to bike instead of drive. This redesign is obviously much better, but a lot more controversial. I suppose both could be suggested.
But my question to you all is Redesign 1 inadequate in terms of comfort and safety, and also is Redesign 2 politically impossible? Obviously Redesign 1 only takes 1 feet away from motor vehicles so it’s probably a much easier sell. Share your thoughts with me.
