I’ve been researching ways to create flexible community space on low-traffic volume roads that have wide rights-of-way and an opportunity to be redesigned into a part-time event plaza.
I’ve run across Court Street Plaza in Cincinnati which is exactly what I’m talking about. 90% of the time the plaza can function as a through street and serve vehicle needs. During events, bollards can be placed to restrict vehicle access and the space becomes a festival event space for the community. It’s dressed up with landscaping, high quality pavement/surface/pavers, and infrastructure to support events from food truck days, concerts, art walks, etc.
Does anyone have other examples (preferably small to mid size towns) where this has been executed?
